Are these two separate concepts? Is one a measurement of a specific force? Is the other the positive effect (floatation) resulting from the differences in weight between a displaced media and the object replacing it? Does buoyant force even play a major role in determining buoyancy?

Buoyancy and Buoyant Force are inter-related to each other. There is no buoyancy if there is no buoyant force acting on any immersed object.



Buoyancy is a principle in which any body/object immersed/submerged in a fluid is subjected to a buoyant force. This is a principle in which any immersed object may tend to float or stabilized when acted upon by a buoyant force.



Buoyant force is determined by a weight of liquid/fluid displaced when an object has been submerged. It is calculated by a volume of solid submerged multiplied by density of a liquid.

The difference between buoyant force and buoncy is similar to that between gravitational force and garvity. Buoyancy is the name of the phenomenon or property which results in the observable effect produced by buoyant force. It is because of the effect of gravity on the fluid that the pressure the property at every point of the fluid depends on the depth of the point from free surface. So the pressure whicha cts in all directions in a fluid at the base is more than at higher points. This force due to this pressure acts on teh body upwards for the base below and the pressure at at top surface of body acts downward on the object. The differential pressure acting on the body is observed as buoyant force.

Gravity is what makes buoyant force works on the object which floating. Less density has less attaction force on it, so heavier volume in fluid push the object out of the direction of garvity where are less pressure on the object. This is how I understand the concept of buoyancy from a mechanical point of view.
