I've been watching these astronomy shows on youtube, and they always say infrared like the word "impaired"; however whenever I here people talking about night vision or rifle sights, they always say infra-red... the "red" part separate, like it's two words. hat's the proper way?

If someone pronounces it to rhyme with "impaired," then you should be very skeptical of anything they say. Nobody who's ever actually heard the word spoken by a scientist would make that mistake.

It's infra-red.
