I was attempting to make that nice clear note that you can make with a wine glass when you run your finger round the edge of it when its full.

I filled a crystal glass near to the brim and ran my finger around the edge. Something very strange happened though. The glass and the water inside it vibrated so hard it made a buzzing sound on my table and the water started to splash out the sides but the weirdest thing was the glass made no sound whatsoever. No high pitched note or anything.
It also drove my cat crazy for some reason.

What was happening and why did it do this?

Wet your finger and try again

You filled the glass too much. The amount of water affects the resonant frequency. Normally, you would experience this as the pitch going up and down, but you added so much water that the pitch became a buzzing.

the beautiful advert with the singer fails to coach that the glass is in a closed container surrounded by potential of audio gadget and a few hundred watts are pumped in. additionally, the tone from tapping a tumbler isn't the comparable because of the fact the loose ringing tone of harmonics. You should put a dab of dish detergent on your finger. Dry skin does not work.
