No, the law of reflection does not apply to diffuse reflection, because diffuse reflection does not have a single angle of reflection but spreads out over a large angular range. So it is meaningless to refer to the angle of incidence being equal to the "angle" of reflection.

The critical angle θc is defined as θc = arcsin(N2/N1), where N1 is the I.R. of the incident-light medium and N2 is the I.R. of the medium on the other side of the boundary. (Thus N1 must be > N2 for θc to exist.) Total internal reflection occurs when θ > θc. When θ = θc, the light is refracted at 90 deg in medium 2.

Yes, the law of reflection does hold for diffuses reflection because the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection which satisfies in the diffuse reflection. In a diffuse reflection, the reflected ray that bounces off a diffuse mirror and spread out over a large angular area, but as long as the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection, the law of reflection holds for diffuse reflection.



The critical angle is the name which the angle of incidence receives when its corresponding angle of refraction is at 90 degrees to the normal. For total internal reflection to occur, the angle at which the ray hits the surface must be greater than the critical angle, or it will simply be refracted into the next medium.

Diffusion is how waves ( or rays of light ) act as they pass through gaps.



Reflection is what happens when rays hit a surface which acts as a mirror and they bounce off at the same angle as the angle at which they hit it.



The critical angle is the name which the angle of incidence receives when its corresponding angle of REFRACTION is at 90 degrees to the normal. For total internal reflection to occur, the angle at which the ray hits the surface must be GREATER than the critical angle, or it will simply be refracted into the next medium.
