Bob and Ben are in space, well away from the magnetic field made by Earth or any other object. They have three bar magnets, but the N and S poles are not labelled, all they know is that each magnet has a N pole at one end and a S at the other. Bob thinks that North attracts North, S attracts S and N repels S”. Amir says “N repels N , S repels S and N attracts S”.How can you find out which side is which and sort out their disagreement.

Thanks

They can't tell which is N and which is S.

But if Bob is right, then they can put all 3 magnets alongside each other and they will stick whichever way they are stacked.

If Amir is right, any two will stick, but the 3rd one will not stick the same way around to the 2 others.

The north pole of the magnet points to the geomagnetic north pole.

North poles repel north poles.

South poles repel south poles.

North poles attract south poles.

South poles attract north poles.

Magnetism is an extremely complicated subject, the people in space would not be able to tell which end is which because it is not really a north and south issue, it is the positive and negative electronically charged atoms that define which end is which, what we call north give out a positive charge while the south gives out a negative charge, so the flow of electronic charge is called a magnetic field and the positive charge is pushed out of the positive end, it then circles out toward the negative end making a circular field, opposite poles attract the same poles repel, if you cut a bar magnet in half you will have two positive ends (north) and two negative ends (south) two completely separate magnets in other words.

you have 2 wires pos. And neg. And/or north and south. north will cling to north and south will stay away from the north. and south will cling to the south and north will stay away from the south. Now say that 3 times without stopping.! Lol. Sounds like a line of b.s. Dont it ? Lol.

Like poles repel. Therefore, you could get

N-----S N-----S N-----S or

S-----N S-----N S-----N BUT that's about as far as you can go without any further information
