n1 sin i = n2 sin r
in this case, n2 is air, so = 1 and sin r = 90, as the ray was totally internally reflected.
We have-:
n1 sin 34.4 = n2 sin 90
n1 sin 34.4 = 1
n1 = 1 / sin 34.4 = 1.77

By Snell's Law;
µ1*sin i=µ2*sin r
here µ1=refractive index of sapphire
µ1=1*sin 90°/sin 34.4°
µ1=1.77
That's it......................
