Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard, or the sensation stimulated in organs of hearing by such vibrations

when we speak it causes vibration in particles of medium . this vibration is transferred from one particle to other and by this way energy gets transferred and we hear the sound . this is way how sound travels . so sound needs a material medium for propagation

Visible light (commonly referred to simply as light) is electromagnetic radiation.

EM propagates through the self sustaining or oscillation of the electric and magnetic fields , which both support each other. As the electric field recedes the magnetic field increases and vice versa , and this can go on almost indefinitely.

They are different forms of energy.

* Sound is literally the particles in a medium colliding and passing their energy on to the next particle, and so forth. This obviously doesn't work if there is no medium

* Light is self-sustaining electromagnetic fields, which can exist on their own without a medium.

Sound is basically just vibration...vibrations can travel along any medium, but in a vacuum there is nothing for the sound to travel on...

light, on the other hand, is a packet of photons. They act as their own medium as well as give off energy (light)...so they can travel in a vacuum...(as with all electromagnetic spectrum waves)...

sound waves are different from ES waves...

Sound waves are basically generated seeing that of elastic nature of the fabric.Now EM waves aren't material waves.They're the oscillation of electrical and Magnetic area.Traditionally firstly humans believed that EM waves are as a result of vibrations of Elastic Aether.But Michelson Morley scan proved that Aether does not exists,so relativity conception showed that it is imperative to have a media for EM waves.Now we have Quantum Physics factor is that mild are particles called Photons and we know that particle movement shouldn't have a Medium.

Sound are vibrations which need to be sent through some sort of medium. Light has it's own medium as photons are gauge bosons themselves.

Sound is essentially particles vibrating, while light is actual particles propagating through space (be it vacuum or not)

So sound needs particles to be there in the first place, while light does not.

one cannot yet really answer to that...must be some energy characteristics not known;

other forms of energy don`t need a medium,but sound,electricity,mechanical energy do(magnetic,gravitational,chemical,light don`t)
