A 0.4-kg toy train car moving forward at 3 m/s collides with and sticks to a 0.8-kg toy car that is traveling?

in the opposite direction at -2 m/s. What is the size and direction of the final velocity of the two cars? Please hurry!

Add up the momentum and divide by the mass and you get the final velocity.
(3 x 0.4) + (-2 x 0.8) = 1.2 + (-1.6) = - 0.4. The weight is 1.2 kg so ...
If you can't get it from there then your teacher needs to know he or she hasn't passed on the concept of conservation of momentum.

0.4*3-2*.8=x*(0,4+0.8)
x=- 0.33
0.33m/s in the minus direction i.e the direction of the second car
