I have an idea for a comic book character. All of his powers would be based on mass-shifting. For one power, when he throws a punch or kick he greatly increases the mass of the contact area for the striking limb for the fraction of a second of impact. Would this lead to an increase in damage and have an almost "armor piercing" effect due to the amount of force being applied to such a small area? Also, he has a super leap ability where he shifts increases the mass in his legs temporarily to provide a large amount of impelling force then decreases it to decrease the overall mass being driven. I know we're talking comic books here, but I like to do things as realistically as possible.
Thank you in advance.

awesome....

mind over matter power.

All of his powers would come from the mind and not his limbs.

Energy fields around the body which work with his thoughts. He could use this energy to move to his fist and create a temporary force field which would have impenetrable effects...causing no harm to him on his side, but giving devastating damage to those he would inflict.

Jumping would be the nullifying of gravity through mental powers. No different from above. Same principle.

Easy to understand.

I'm not sure about why he'd increase the mass in his legs when jumping because that would mean that he'd need to use more energy... If he jumped normally then reduced his mass (and, of course, conserving his kinetic energy) then he'd speed up giving him the 'super leap' ability.

Force = Mass x Acceleration.

You can increase the force of the blow by increasing the mass of the contact area, but you will need to maintain the acceleration.

here is a link from infoplease.com referencing exactly what you need, I think, http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/sci/A0832120.html

even once you're in 'the actual worldwide', once you're a stable & style individual, you have got family & acquaintances around you to guard & assist you. there's no reason family & acquaintances won't manage to guard and help a newborn, too, whilst the newborn ventures out into the 'actual worldwide'.
